1951 Banner No 781 Toy Truck In Original Box

1951 Banner No 781 Toy Truck In Original Box

Incredible pressed steel and lithographed tin "Toy Truck" manufactured by Banner Plastics, Paterson, NJ. Unpurchased store stock purchased from the grandson of the original shop owner. It was only recently removed from the box for the first time several weeks ago. This particular model is especially difficult to find in any condition.

Fantastic looking truck has a pressed steel cab and trailer with baked red enamel paint. The front grille is stamped aluminum. The "Banner Toy Truck" awning covering the pick-up bed is all tin litho and has a fold-down rear tail gate. The lower half is decorated with lots of kiddies and their playthings, while the upper end esembles an enclosed stake truck with wooden slat sides. The wheels are pressed steel disks.

The box was illustrated with an accurate drawing of the actual toy. 1950s era children, both a girl and boy, are shown playing with it. The side panels show the truck from the right side. The toy name, manufacturer, and address were printed along side. One of the box ends has the typical set of three hinged endflaps which has an additional (right side) view of the truck. It's also interesting to note that the toy represents 1/12 of a dozen (or 12 boxes in a case). The opposite end was intended to remain tucked into position and sealed. It still has its original 99¢ price sticker.
